Today, you can find Oden-can which started from Akiba in every corner of Japan. There are many reasons to be loved by Japanese people; its uniqueness, convenience and so on. But the best reason must be its great taste and its perfect price! Let’s dig deeper.
Oden-can has two different types according to its ingredients; one is beef gristles and white radish (left, red one). Another one contains fish ball and white radish (right, green one). Other five ingredients are the same in these two cans; a tube-shaped fish cake, fried fish cake, konjac, egg of quail and tied konjac.

The maker of this oden-can, Tengu Kandume Company, told us ‘Beef gristle is really popular ingredient. We use Australian lean beef that much stewed cooking very much. Soup is bit sweet to go along with beef gristle.’/p>
Oden-can with minced fish and white radish. Although it’s easy to eat with bowl because it has plenty of soup inside of can, man who really knows Akiba eats oden-can without any plates or chopsticks and they eat it while they’re working around Akiba town.
At first sight, it looks difficult to eat without chopsticks. But you can! There is a way to eat oden-can without any plates or chopsticks! First, drink soup until you can see ingredients (Soup is already good enough!). Next, please pick up konjac with tiny wood stick already put on and eat it! Then, you can eat other ingredients with this stick. Now, you master oden-can; you are one of the members of Akiba people.
You can get oden-can in the entrance of Janku street, 1st floor of Chichibu-denki building. You can find this place if you walk straight the crossroad of Akiba Chuou Street for the direction of Ochanomizu. Oden-can is 320 yen each. If you eat it while you are walking, let’s get hot one. If you want to bring it back as souvenirs, let’s buy cold one as many as you like!
