Retro games are popular both inside and outside of Japan. This store specializes in nostalgic video game devices that were released in Japan in years gone by, starting with the NES and SNES consoles. Another great thing about this place is that they replace the batteries of devices which require them with new ones before putting the device back on sale.
The reason that the sign says “Store No. 7”, despite the fact that there is actually only one of these stores here in Akihabara, is that the numbering is based on the stores in the “Omoshiro Land Camp Group”, which has its head office in Kochi prefecture and has expanded primarily around Shikoku island.
The are so many games consoles here which bring back memories of hours of determined playing many years ago. In true Akihabara style, all the parts required to connect them to modern TVs are here.
The cartridges required to play these retro games are packed in wall-to-wall. What’s special about them is that most of them are not in boxes, so you can just pop them open and play immediately.
“We test all of our game software following maintenance. We also replace any internal batteries with new batteries. This is the only place you’ll find this kind of detailed care!”
This place doesn’t only sell games - they also have a range of merchandise inspired by nostalgic game characters. If this place gets you reflect on all those games, why not take one of them home as a souvenir?
We’re told that this store also buys games from non-Japanese customers. But don’t forget to bring your passport, as it’s necessary when selling games.
