K-BOOKS Akihabara Shinkan has an overwhelming assortment of over several hundred thousand books ranging from comics, illustrations and light novels. Its charm lies in the layout carefully planned by the staff of comic aficionados, with areas such as the Anime and Media Corner, Death Game Special Editions and of course the well-known Akihabara moe genre. With book signings and displays of original art copies, it is a bookstore that has plenty for comic lovers to enjoy, even just by looking.
There are book signings and sales of books bearing autographs directly written by the author.
※Notices of these events will be on the K-BOOKS Akihabara Shinkan homepage.
The Death Game Special Editions Corner, filled with works from the horror genre such as “Alice in Borderland” and “Karada Sagashi”. This concept corner was decided by all of the comic-loving staff.
A corner dedicated to works that have recently been made into an anime series or film, such as “March Comes in Like A Lion” and “Nobunaga no Shinobi”.
Mr. Yamada is the manager of K-BOOKS Akihabara Shinkan and the owner of over 2000 comics. His favourite comic series is the boxing manga “Hajime no Ippo” and his recent recommendation is “Amano Megumi wa Suki Darake!”.
As there are many customers from overseas such as Asia and Europe, a corner for English translations of popular comics has been set up.
The English translation of the first volume for “Naruto”. It gives off a slightly different impression than the Japanese translation.
Only K-BOOKS Akihabara Shinkan has a “First Volume Corner”, a corner made only for the first volume of series from the previous generation. “We don’t know if they are broadcast overseas, but works such as “Dragon Ball” and “Dr. Slump” are popular among customers from abroad, who often buy them as gifts.” Says the manager.
Customers from China and Asia have recently been buying a lot of art books and drawing tutorial books. While editions in other languages are not available, their diagrams are easy to understand.
Many original illustration copies of works such as “Kyuuketsuki Sugu Shinu” and “Ane no Onaka wo Fukuramaseru no wa Boku” and signature boards of famous authors are put on display.
“There are many stores in Akihabara that handle newly published comics, but this is the best place to go in Akihabara in terms of a line-up of old works and handling the stock of first volume copies.” Says the manager. While the staff cannot communicate in other languages, if customers tell them the name of the piece or author, they will direct them to the correct place right away. Could the works displayed in the Anime and Media Corner be broadcast overseas someday? How about taking a look at the original work beforehand?
