‘TARGET-1 Akihabara' is a popular shooting spot in Akiba available for all levels - from beginner to experienced. The great thing about ‘TARGET-1 Akihabara' is that you can come empty-handed as they have over 60 types of guns available for you to use. The staff can also speak English - useful for any visitors from abroad.
You have to choose your course / options at the front desk and then listen to the safety precautions message. The staff can help beginners on how to pick guns.
You can also rent a few of the air-guns available at the very popular ‘TOKYO MARUI’. Lots of people test out the air-guns here and try to find the one that fits them best before buying anything.
The staff can guide you on everything from how to install the magazines and how to insert the bullets, to how to hold the gun.
If you attend the beginners course and are over 18 years old, then the cost of using the facilities, the cost of renting the air-gun and the cost of supplies used comes as a convenient set price. (Course A-1: Gas-hand-gun 100shots, 10minutes, 1,000yen. There are other courses, too.)
※If you are under 18 years old (and over 10 years old), then it is possible to choose the gun suitable for your age if a guardian is present. A guardian is required to be present even if you have your own gun.
After the lecture, you can start shooting in the 10m lane with the gun purchases from the other store. Mr. Sato, a staff at the store, looks at Mr. Joe's line of fire and can adjust the air-gun as appropriate. Here are also 5m and 15m lanes, but at the 10m lane there is a paper target hanging by string that can be moved forwards or backwards - this is very convenient for beginners.
Besides from aiming at the target, you can also enjoy the games available - steel competitions/time trials here. On the day I went I tried the time trial. 6 LED lamps light up at random and you have to shoot at them while the time counts down. My result was 26.29 seconds. It seems yesterday's champion had a score of 5.09 seconds!
A scope is required for the 15m lane.
This is staff member Mr. Sato with Mr. Joe. Mr. Sato can show you how to hold the air-gun properly and have beautiful form. He can also help with how to handle the trigger safely.
He can also tell you about nearby air-gun stores and other useful information.
“Our customers come the USA, Australia, Thailand, Singapore, China, etc.” Mr. Sato explains that he speaks in English with these customers. He also spoke to us about how he got interested in air-guns in junior high school after a friend taught him how to use it. He owns over 10 air-guns now, and often acts out poses and situations shown in movies with gun scenes. It seems his specialty scene is from the movie “John Wick”.
