Even after Akiba has turned into one of the most international spots in Tokyo, with a growing number of foreign visitors, it's still rare to find a store with a non-Japanese owner. The used camera shop, "IMTIAZ CAMERA MARKET", is one of the few exceptions. The owner, Mirza, is from Pakistan. While he buys and sells digital cameras as well, his focus is on film cameras. "Film cameras are getting popular lately, so we have a wide selection of them. Most of our customers are foreigners, but we also have many female customers who are new to film photography," Mirza says.
The walls are covered with cameras from the ceiling to the floor.
On the day of our visit, new items were still waiting in the cases to be put on display in the camera-covered shop. "It's hard to find space when new items come in," a staff member complained of the abundance of their selection.
