"Tsukumo Robot Kingdom" is Japan's first specialist robot store. As a robot specialist, they've obviously got robots, and there are also other attractions such as 3D printers and drones. For newcomers, there are popular DIY and pre-made kits for sale, and the store has something to match all tastes, from beginners to experienced pros.
Inside, there are dedicated "experience booths" that let visitors get a first-hand experience of the kits on sale. Mr. Hukumoto, an employee of the store whose career stretches back almost 10 years, said, "Most customers who visit the shop try controlling the robots at least once".
Inside the store, the 3D printers immediately grabs your attention. The store offers the widest selection of merchandise in Akihabara. Depending on the model, the printers differ in terms of the maximum size and density of the output, as well the the kinds of materials that can be used. That's why it's important to choose the right printer according to the size and feel of the object you want to create; if you're unsure, just ask one a member of staff.
There are also real examples of models created using the printer on display. These can be used as a reference for the kinds of models that can be created by the different printers.
There are plenty of real robots on display. From Kondo Kagaku's "KONDO" brand's KHR series, to the many-legged KMR series. "Personally, I want to see the development of robots that walk on two legs and robots that can fly in the sky," says hukumoto, adding, "we're happy to perform demonstrations, so don't hesitate to ask."
Located near the entrance are the drones, which have been a hot topic recently. There are two varieties on offer, available as a set with the controller included, or as the drone by itself.
Solar- and wind-powered cars are also popular. Pictured is a friction-powered DIY car set (¥1,520, tax excl.). "The Tamiya kits are particularly popular among foreign customers as well, since from the first Japanese and English version of the manuals are enclosed," explains hukumoto.
The shop boasts a range of merchandise only a specialist can provide, and the demonstrations conducted by experienced staff are a must-see. Definitely worth stopping by if you're in Akihabara.
