Just a one-minute walk after you exit the JR Akihabara station, “Robot Aisle” is located just under JR elevated structure. From robots to affiliated parts, 3D printers and more, you can purchase while looking at the real pieces. At the storefront there’s a cat-shaped robot, “Neko Tencho”, who waves and greets you. Next door has a line up of products from a radio center, which helps you to taste the flavor and atmosphere of Akihabara’s craftsmanship.
“At first, we walk hand-in-hand with our customers, and that’s the vibe that flows through here,” says CEO Mr. Kawakami, the president and owner of Robot Aisle’s partner company RT Forward. In the store you can buy finished robot products, or you can customize your figure with parts RT original customized goods. “We prefer that you touch the robots and get to known them. If you’re still curious about something, please let me know,” said Mr. Kawakami.
There’s even a sales general agent for robot maker HPI JAPAN, so there are plenty of HPI JAPAN brand robots. There are also plenty of customizable parts available.
Many customers continued to ask for this product, so a “Raspberry Pi”, small-sized PC corner was set up. “In addition to the traditional Raspberry Pi2 B+, there’s also the new, third generation item. The Pi2 B+ model has more modular pieces, but the 3 model is popular for it’s good apps,” said Mr. Kawakami.
Inside of “ASSEMBLAGE”, there’s workspace located next door where you can build the robot you bought without charge. If you show Robot Aisle a receipt from your shopping, you can use the Wifi for 30 minutes for free. The charge to use it during other times is ￥150/hour on the weekdays, ￥200/hour over the weekends and holidays. Please feel free to use it (a standard fare is ￥200 for one hour on a weekday, or ￥250 on the weekends. A plus one is ￥100 per hour on Fridays.
3D Printer, “Afinia 3D”. The machine uses a special filament inside. “This maybe the only shop in Akihabara with this much filament at the ready,” said Mr. Kawakami. When you run it, the printer is quieter than other 3D printers plus it’s recommend for its price and accuracy.
They also sell robots made by the new company’s parent company, RT. The original robots that can walk on two legs are popular because you can customer them or get a better price much more easily. It’s received a lot of reviews on college campuses and at trade schools, so there are many times when students will come to ask about the shop.
”The Light-Chasing Micro Robot”, is a miniature robot that’s the size of a ￥500 coin. We recommend this as your first step in the electrical building field.
Neko-Tencho is a huge success that’s to the point where some people will even say “let’m meet up by the Neko-Tencho statue.” This is also a good chance to feel the warm welcome of robots known in Akihabara.
