There are many duty-free shops in Akihabara. But while most focus on electronics, Akihabara Asobit City features Akiba hobbies.
The 5th floor features a variety of Gundam plastic models (commonly known as “Gunpla”) as well as other plastic kits. Besides items related to robot animation, there are also kits such as the pirate ship featured in the popular animation, One Piece, and more.
Gunpla are popular abroad, too. These stickers are made by the staff members. The stickers are helpful as they provide important advice when putting them together in many different languages.
The 6th floor is complete with cosplay and character goods. Besides character figures, there are goods like t-shirts, stationery, and more.
There is a particularly large variety of Kantai Collection goods, a browser-based game especially popular in Asia. The store’s lineup is a notably large one even for Akiba.
There is also a substantial lineup of food models, as well as figures of sweets that look exceptionally real. The 1:1 scale crab model is an especially popular item.
The 7th floor is an animation collaboration floor. The store’s current collaborating partner is Love Live!, a popular animation series based in Akiba. The entire floor is filled with Love Live! merchandise.
Character goods are sorted by character, so you won’t have to waste time looking for your favorite character’s merchandise.
Of course, being a complete duty-free shop, the store carries pharmacy, cosmetics, beauty appliances, kitchen products, foreign-sold appliances, watches, and jewelry from floors 1 to 4. Besides hobbyist items, you can check out all kinds of electronics and daily-use items on the store’s lower floors.
