Cherumo originally opened as a book store twenty years ago, but soon thereafter, the shop gradually transformed into one that mainly deals with cards. According to the manager, they carry all kinds of card-related items, featuring a line-up that includes anything from new and old collectible card games (CCG) to Data Carddass (DCD) and cards sold with candy.
As far as CCG goes, Cherumo mainly deal in Yu-Gi-Oh! and Pokemon, but they also have carry standards such as Magic: The Gathering. They even carry rare Yu-Gi-Oh! misprints, like certain monster cards feature the names of other monsters, or other trap cards don’t even have their names printed on them, giving them a high rarity value.
For Pokemon cards, they also carry early releases, which are getting harder and harder for collectors to get their hands on. The trademark of an early release is its dark blue backside. The manager explains, “they are even popular among foreign customers. There are some that come here specifically looking for them.”
Digimon is a card game with deep-rooted popularity. “We are likely the only shop that still carries Digimon cards in Akiba.”
Shinra Bansho is a series of cards that come packaged with chocolate and is extremely popular among hardcore collectors.
Various kinds of cards are stored in binders.
There is a showcase in one corner of the shop that features other non-card goods, as well as card-related goods such as sleeves. “We not only carry cards, but all other kinds of items related to them,” says the manager. The inner part of the store is also furnished with a playing area.
Excluding some rare cards, most of the cards are on the relatively cheap side. Since they mainly deal with older cards, and values depend greatly on a card’s popularity, you have to check the shopfront for details.
“Due to a portion of collectors, the value of certain cards can reach outrageous amounts, but cards games are meant to be played, so we do our best to sell cards at a price that makes them easily attainable.”
