The Chabara Aki-oka Marche Japanese Department Stores Food Products Hall opened in July of 2013, gathering together superb items chosen by specialized buyers and located in the former site of the once lively Kanda greengrocers’ market in Akihabara. Specialized products from 46 of the 47 prefectures are brought together on one floor. While being in Akihabara, you can get delicious items from throughout the nation.
The name Chabara was coined by joining Yacchaba, another name for the Kanda greengrocers’ market, together with Akihabara. Akihabara itself was once such a marketplace. The history of insisting on flavor is the source of Akihabara’s current culture of insisting on quality.
There is also an insistence on providing English markings. We are told that some 30 to 40 per cent of daily visitors are from overseas. This market will be providing duty-free service from December 2015, which is available for purchases of 5001 yen and up.
There are numerous types of canned goods, with this many varieties just for canned mackerel.
Peanut snacks are another highly popular product. We recommend it for a gift.
There are many varieties and types of soy sauce from various parts of Japan. We are told visitors from overseas are surprised over the number of varieties you can find.
Special soy sauce only for eggs on rice. Here is an insistence on changing soy sauce together with a change in the meal.
