Akihabara became a great place to get breakfast when it became the first place outside Matsuyama, Ehime to welcome homemaid pancake store Flying Scotsman, whose pancakes are double the height of normal ones.
Not only do they serve pancakes: they also specialize in siphon coffee.
According to the manager, “the most important quality of our café is our homemade foods. Coffee beans and pancake ingredients are strictly chosen, and we take time to cook too. Even when it’s crowded, we do not rush and compromise our quality.”
They start to bake pancakes after each order, so until being served, enjoy their home-roasted coffee. You can watch the siphon-style coffee being brewed before your eyes. This kind of cafe is quite rare in Akihabara.
Some pancakes are seasonal.
“My recommendation is tea flavor, but you should try plain first! The ingredients are very simple. It's our goal to make them feel homemade," the manager said.
Flying Scotman's sandwiches and coffee-flavored jello are also homemade. Their strict stance about their dishes helps maintain their quality.
The kitchenware is all electric, as gas-powered burners can upset the flavor of coffee.
If you're interested in a coffee and pancake break on your Akiba journey, give them a try.
