K-BOOKS Akihabara Main Store is where you will find second-hand anime and seiyū (voice artist) goods that are not currently on the market, were won as prizes, or were once available at a limited stock, as well as goods that are hard to find outside of Japan. With a stock of over 120,000 items only for enthusiasts, this store is a must-visit for all anime and seiyū fans! The store’s convenient location in the Akihabara Radio Kaikan building, which is just a short walk from the Electric Town Exit of Akihabara Station, is yet another attractive point.
An anime that is super popular in Japan and abroad, this is the Neon Genesis Evangelion section of the store. Here you can not only see the goods celebrating 25 years of the franchise, but also a nostalgic collection of products from its original anime run too.
This section belongs to another super popular anime, Love Live!
“Love Live! is especially popular with our patrons from Taiwan,” the store owner notes.
An example of the store’s collection of rarities: The limited first run Blu-ray of Idolm@ster Million Live! 2nd Live Enjoy H@rmony!!
Each character of The Idolmaster Cinderella Girls adorns these official concert lightsticks. These ultra rare items were only available at the official concerts.
A discovery of these Frieza figures and those of his spaceship in the Dragon Ball section!
“This product is from the super-popular anime series Saint Seiya. What is special about it is that it was exclusive to Bandai’s official online store Tamashii Web, which is not available to those living overseas. So these products fly off the shelves,” the store owner says.
“Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure is also really popular in the West.”
A big bunch of Vocaloid goods, too!
Goods from the web browser game Kantai Collection.
“Kantai Collection goods are popular with Chinese customers. They really love the figures!”
This huge space has been taken over by Gundam.
“Gundam model kits are indeed extremely popular with visitors from overseas,” says the shop owner.
This 1/12 scale figure of Gundam MS-06S Char’s Zaku II’s presence is just overpowering. Though this figure is, unfortunately, only for show, such a rare display is still a sight to behold.
A large section of the wall of this area is dedicated to posters and tapestries, number nearly 2,000. Customers from abroad frequently purchase these items as souvenirs to take back home. The posters and tapestries range from around 1,000 to over 10,000 yen.
These 100 x 180 cm cloth tapestries are not only big in size, they have a big impact, too.
Plenty of used CDs of anime and games too. A full line up of anime theme songs and soundtracks. In the jacket, the condition of the package and the CD surface (lens side) is ranked in A, B and C, so you can buy without worries.
“Game soundtracks are very popular among foreign customers, especially Europeans and Americans”, says the manager. CDs from the Final Fantasy series and Nintendo’s soundtracks that can only be acquired by fan club members are especially popular, he says.
“CDs of voice actors also have a huge popularity. CDs of young voice actor idols are specially popular among Asian clients,” the manager says.
Premium CDs can also be found. Limited gift CDs and special CDs given as bonuses for the purchase of other products are hard to obtain and have a limited number of copies, which give them a high rarity value.
There is a rich amount of used DVDs and Blu-rays too. Normally, anime DVDs are sold in separate volumes each month, with 5 or 6 volumes in total, but used ones offer the convenience of buying all volumes at once. Picking an anime that you were curious about and enjoying it from the first to the last volume in one go is the Akiba way.
Also, in Live Hall Akihabara, which is treated as a separate store despite being located on the same floor as Akihabara Honkan, an abundant amount of concert goods of anime and voice actors, which were sold exclusively at the concert venue, are gathered.
Fan club newsletters which were distributed only to club members. A treasure that Akiba citizens can’t aquire so easily.
With the concept of having everything on one single floor, this store is crowded with anime and seiyū goods. Please be aware that K-BOOKS has another section below it, which is on the 3rd floor. The 3rd floor section has an adults-only area, so please be careful when bringing children.
